Wireless Security Cameras – Comparison

Wireless security cameras are the technological gadgets that have received considerable importance in today’s fast moving world. The reasons for their popularity are numerous but perhaps the most obvious reason out of these is the need for security at homes as well as at offices.

What to look for when buying Wireless Security Cameras?

Home security has become one of the major concerns of the residential people. Hence, many buyers of such cameras are residents and at times possess little or no knowledge at all.  It is of utmost importance that the buyers go through the internet or some magazines in order to get an idea about they want to buy.

The first thing is to know your budget and why you need the camera.  Once you decide that, you can look into other factors such as the image quality, resolution, power, sound, the distance of transmission, recording option etc.

Over here, we will compare 3 such cameras that are the best buy for the prospects. The prospects however can still make their own decision based on their own unique needs.

Foscam FI8918W

This wireless camera is a perfect example of being high-tech and still user friendly. Voted as the winner of Gold Award by TopTenReviews, it is pretty much affordable, priced at $ 89.99. It is best for home and office security.

The top features of this camera include built-in speaker and a recording option on video footage. Along with digital zoom, it has infrared LEDs that allow the images to be captured at night.  Facilitated with a notification option, it has a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 (enough to get a clear view) and a field of view of 67 degrees.

One flaw of this camera is that the notifications received as email alerts are just images and not videos.

Wireless-N Internet Home Monitoring Camera WVC80N

This camera is a product from Linksys by Cisco. Its captivating outlook makes it sleek and appealing. Its price is $139.99 making it more expensive than Foscam FI8918W. It is the Silver Award winner of TopTenReviews for wireless security cameras.

This camera also has a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 and a built-in microphone. The camera can be configured to have multi-user access. One of the impressive things about this camera is, unlike Foscam FI8918W, short video recordings can also be sent via emails.

However, the camera still has some flaws. It has to be tilted manually. This is to say that the camera will be capturing images from the same angle until and unless you do not change the camera positioning manually. Moreover, it lacks infrared LED through which night vision can be captured.

SecurView Wireless Internet Camera Day/Night TV-IP121W

Winner of Bronze Award by TopTenReviews, it has a similar resolution of 640x480 like the other two cameras. Its price is also $139.99. One of its prominent features is its excellent audio quality thanks to the strong audio pickup. The camera has infrared LEDs for night visions as well as the field view up to 16 feet at night.

However, this camera also needs to be tilted manually like the WVC80N. In addition, remote viewing is only available on certain browsers and apps.
